DJI Mini 3 Pro in the RAIN

Don't fly your DJI Mini 3 Pro in the rain, but, if you do, dry it.

This is another test of the DJI Mini 3 Pro. These are just tests, nothing scientific, and in a way they're also tests of my Youtube channel, not doing everything perfect, not super amazing shots in the mountains or over lakes, just simple shots filmed on the Mini 3 and DJI Mic. Simple as it gets. I'm testing what the algorithm thinks about this type of media compared to arty farty films.

I’m an Electrical Engineer and I have built many drones and water resistant coatings is something that I do to all drones, that being said ALL DJI drones that I have had or ones I have repaired have what’s known as conformal coating on the boards. I recently flew my DJI Air 2S back from 3km in very heavy rain, when I took it apart I checked the boards and used the UV light and easily saw the coating however on the ESC board it was visible without UV light as the coating as so thick that it looked like a silicone sleeve. In short they are water resistant (not water proof) and yes the salt water is always an issue and fresh water to flush it down is a must! Anyway try not to fly in the rain but if your caught in the rain don’t freak out as it will more than likely come back home safe and sound also air conditioning air is dry air and will help any moisture dry out of the drone so another great tip to put it on the dash of the car to help drying process.

Not the props I would worry about but the air intake behind the gimbal is where most of your water that would hurt your drone gets into the internals. Even rainwater can corrode electronic connections also the water on a live circuit board or on the microchips on the board can cause some damage. Best practice to avoid rin if you can. Thanks for the video!

I've flew my mini 2 in a very heavy rain, not in purpose I just got caught in the rain but I flew it around 6 to 7 minutes and it came like it was in a pond or something, completely wet and it had no issues at all.

Was out today, the sun was shining, to do some reconnaissance. Close to the target point raindrops came down, and then snow! The temperature was +7 C! I cancelled the flying in that moment.
Knowing that cancelling often restores the good weather other checkings were done. And yes, the weather cleared up. Got away 1/2 a mile across the lake, did some flying and then the RTH sent an alarm due to the wind and the

my mini 2 has drowned, 1m under water for 5 minutes(!) when i pulled it out, the light was still on. the battery (inside) and electrical contacts remained dry. after a day in the dryer it worked like nothing ever happened. heck, the drone might have remained flyable straight after i pulled it out of the water. maybe some crazy person might wanna try that one day

Another amazing video :) Thanks Phillip :) by the way, my Mini 2 was diving in the lake for about 30 seconds, it was all in, and after sitting on heater for about 12 hours it was all ok and it is still ok - it was about a year ago :) These little drones are amazing :) Tahe care :)

I would be sweating more than that drone is wet if my Mini 3 got that drenched!
🤣

I just got my Mini 3 Pro last week and today got caught in a downpour.
Sports mode enabled, zipped as quickly back to the Home position and safely landed it. Powered off properly and then took the battery out once inside my car.

Crossing my fingers I have no issues. I'm more mad than anything that because I was caught fiddling with a panoramic mode that I didn't have time to switch it into video mode and capture the downpour, LOL!

As for your final comments, I wonder if keeping a gallon of distilled water on hand would be useful for drone pilots? That could help if sea water gets inside of the drone.

You are an absolute mad man. I was flying in decent snow with my mini 2 one time and then it started raining, brought her back to find that she barely got misted so I threw her back up for some more. Had me sweating though lol

Havent spent much time on YouTube recently...But I'm so glad to see you have a Mini 3 now. Also glad to see you are enjoying it :) They come to their senses?

Good endurance test for the Mini 3!! Someone once told me that to prevent electronic components from being damaged by moisture, it is good to leave the drone hovering indoors until a full battery is exhausted, to increase the internal temperature and thus dry out the components. This only works with fresh water, of course, if it's sea water there's nothing to do (well yes... care refresh) 😄

Bro how did you get audio sound out of your drone without the spinning blades noise? Thank you for the answer

Hey Phillip.. I bought my mini 3 pro one month ago..with the standard controller.. what do you think.. will it be good to buy the RC ones and sell the standard..

I guess the props helps blow off rain and it flew along. How did you dry it off ? Did you quickly remove the battery ? I don't think it is IP(anything) rated . When covered with water is it more than 749 grams at take off ?

Phillip what voice recorder do you use?

Had a similar situation with my Mini 2 where the drone was around 500 meters away and all of a sudden it started pouring (typical Scottish weather). I'm not gonna lie I was panicking a little but it came back safe and sound and after drying it and inspecting it, it was completely fine and flew perfectly the next day!
