We hitch up a two tonne camper trailer to the new Jeep Gladiator Rubicon to see if it tows as well as it conquers off-road trails

Jeep's Wrangler-based Gladiator is one of the most impressive off-road dual-cab 4x4 utes straight form the factory, and the Rubicon grade gets all the best off-road kit including the rugged Rock-trac 4WD system with ultra-low range gearing, front and rear diff locks, rock sliders, and chunky Mickey Thompson mud tyres on 17in alloys.

It's almost unstoppable off-road, but with a 2721kg tow rating and 620kg payload, also promises a lot for buyers who want to tow a boat or off-road camper deep into the bush.

I towed a 2.1T camper behind a LC200 V8 Diesel and that averaged 22ltr per 100km, , so I'd say that tow fuel consumption is very good

This is a bit misleading the gladiators max tow rating is 7650 lbs there are several levels of towing capacity. If you get the rubicon with 4.1 gear ratio it can tow up to 7, 000lbs.

It looks tough strong 4x4 Ute best off road car . But maybe not suitable for work .

Jeep have a problem with its 8 speed auto. Rumor has it after only 20 thousand Ks they are finding metal from sheared gears.
To be a Gladiator it needs a V8 .
