Folks, stick to the dry tendril method, you may get lucky once in awhile with thumping but you will waste many more than you want.

I raise acres and acres of watermelons each summer and the tendril method is the only proper way and save the thumping for the grocery store test.

Great post! With your left & right thumbs push in on both ends of the melon at the same time.
If the rind gives excessively the melon is overly ripe.
If not and the thumping sound is low and the tendril closest to the melon is off color and dry.
That's the the best melon you'll ever eat!

Once a watermelon starts to grow how long would you say it take to grow full size?

I need some answers the other day I planted some watermelon seeds I put eight in the hole the hole is not very deep and I didn't use any fertilizer I just put some eggshells do you they would terminate and grow is getting plenty of sunlight I've been watering it or do it need any plant food or fertilizer please let me know

We’ve had very dry hot days lately, however it’s about to rain for the next 5 days😬. Should I expect some of my melons to crack? I had one to to crack after last rain and it was small.

I made the mistake of watering my kajari melons when one was a couple days from being ready. It split overnight and had to pull it early. 🤦🏼‍♀️

The spot where it sits on the ground should be yellow and it should feel heavy for its size. If it gives at all to finger pressure it is old and grainy.
