I was following along with these videos during my third trimester with my second baby, and I made it to 41 weeks, 3 days! I had an induction with pitocin (I was already 4cm dilated since 40 weeks, so there was no point in using earlier methods of induction). The day before the induction, I realized I had been in denial that it could get to that point, and was feeling fearful and anxious. It was still important to me to labor without pain medication, but all of the natural labor content I'd been taking in made it sound like getting induced is a death sentence for natural labor. I wasn't able to find any support or encouragement for how to do the rest of labor as naturally as possible if you *do* end up getting induced--everyone just says to not get induced! Anyway, I scheduled a last-minute appointment with my OB to get a membrane sweep, mainly so that I could have a conversation with her about exactly how the induction goes and what to expect. She told me that the dosage of pitocin can go from 2-36 ml, and that they would start at the lowest dosage and wait 30 minutes before increasing it to the next level. She said the goal of pitocin is simply to get my body to go into labor, and that once my body took over, the pitocin could be dialed back so that the contractions did not get too overpowering or too close together. She also reassured me that the reason women who get induced are more likely to have a c-section is largely because often, the pregnancy has a complication that is already at higher risk for c-section, and that's the reason for the induction. She said since my pregnancy had no complications and the baby was still looking great, there would likely be no need to change my plan for natural pain management. Really the only thing that was changing was that all of early labor and active labor would happen at the hospital. This was such a needed conversation for me, as it allowed me to shift my plan and still feel calm, confident and prepared to have a positive birth experience WITH an induction, which everyone seemed to think is impossible. My husband went out and got my favorite treats and snacks too bring with us, since I knew I might be in the process for a while before active labor really kicked in, I talked with my doula, and at the end of the day I felt ready and at peace, and so very excited to meet my baby.
The next day I went in for the induction, and it was such a calm way to arrive at the hospital (compared to with my first, when I was in full active labor and 8cm when I got checked in). It took about 6 hours of increasing the pitocin gradually for the contractions to be strong enough that I felt like I really needed to manage them. During that time I walked many laps around the floor, used a yoga ball, did squats and lunges, ate snacks occasionally, watched a little YouTube, and listened to music. Finally I felt labor really kicking in, and because I had done natural labor once before, I knew exactly what my body was feeling and how I needed to be supported to manage the surges. Right before that, the nurse had checked me and I had basically not progressed at all, but then quite suddenly things got intense at the next dosage increase. My support team was amazing, and I felt so in tune with my body and what was happening in the labor process. A little less than an hour after active labor really started, I was leaning over a c-cub (essentially all 4s but more comfortable), and knew I needed to get things to OPEN. As I did, my water broke. Instantly my mental fog cleared, and I looked at my husband and said "The baby is coming. I can do this!!" No time for a cervical check--5 minutes of powerful pushing and roaring later, my beautiful baby boy was born. This birth was so empowering and incredible. The contractions were a little more painful than what I remember with my first, but they decreased the pitocin when they got too close together, and the active labor was so short that the whole labor was definitely easier! I felt so aware and in control. I was able to communicate exactly what I needed, and when I wasn't able to talk, my support team intuitively knew what to do. It was exhilarating!! I never reached a point of despair or panic or considering asking for an epidural.

Sorry this was so lengthy. But I hope my story gives some encouragement to someone that will get induced--you can still have the rest of your labor naturally! Adjust your plan and talk to your care provider. You can do it, Mama!

First time mom who is getting induced in 2 weeks. I've been a nervous wreck and somehow your video popped up on my feed. I'm so thankful that it did because I am feeling a lot more at ease and less anxious. Thank you so much for this 💜💜💜

Edit: Quick update! I had my son March 9th and following these tips was a big help! Thank you so much! He is now a month old and is one healthy (and very active) baby boy 💙💙💙

Bridget you are amazing, I can’t thank you enough! I am a first time mom who had an induction and I just delivered my beautiful baby boy September 29 2021 at 8:32 AM vaginally without an epidural !! I am 110% it was all thanks to watching your birth affirmation videos and the breathing techniques. They saved me during my contractions with pitocin I went from 5cm to 10 cm in approximately 30 minutes !!! My nurse walked in and saw I was struggling with those last contractions and decided to check me there and boom 💥 baby was coming out ! It went by so fast after that I had my baby just after 3 pushes and although I felt in those last moments I could not do it, I had to stay positive and remember my body was already pushing my baby out with the breathing techniques.. the mooing breathing is Chefs Kiss !! It did all the work for me and in 5 minutes my baby was already in my arms. I was so star struck about what had just happened. I’m extremely happy I saw and put in practice your tips because they definitely worked . 💙

Just had my first healthy baby boy after 32 hours of induced labour at 41 weeks. I was hesitant to get induced but I trusted my obgyn and we had a really great team of midwives, nurses, & doctors rotating around the clock. I'm so grateful for all of them and my husband because I couldn't have done any of it without them.

I just had my first baby and I was shocked with how quickly and smoothly my labor and delivery went. I was already 3 cm dilated prior to my water breaking but by the time I got to the hospital, I was at 5 cm. I was experiencing very minor contractions and they were getting further apart for about an hour so I was given the lowest dose of Pitocin just to get my contractions closer together and in about 45 minutes, I was at 10 cm. The nurse actually had to call the doctor to come check my cervix (they were planning on checking 2 hours after starting the Pitocin) and the doctor was shocked to see I was already fully dilated (especially since this was my first pregnancy). 20 minutes later and baby was out.

Heyy, First time mama here & I am currently 40 weeks & 5 days. I have to be induced now because my baby is being stubborn lol. So far I did a membrane sweep. It is VERY uncomfortable & I had some spotting ! I am a little nervous about being induced again but my husband is helping me with this process as well as these videos. Thank you so much & KEEP POSTING ❤️❤️❤️

I did not make a birth plan, because the whole birth processed scared me a little bit and i felt more confident having no plan, and letting the “experts” make decisions that would be the best/safest for baby and mama. I was ready to go with the flow 🙂
My water broke too long before labor started so I ended up being induced on Pitocin. Oh lala it does get intense!!
But it was a quick 5 hour labor, and mama is oh sooo in love with baby girl 💕

THANK YOU FOR THIS VIDEO!! I had an unplanned, spontaneous, and medically necessary induction. It. Broke. My. Heart. I was afraid for baby’s well being on top of the change in plan where I felt I had zero control.
I would add that food and water is withheld during this process. My experience started with Cervidil at 7PM and I could eat until midnight. I was 40 weeks and 1 day never having a contraction. I started contractions that made me sick to my stomach immediately. I planned on an unmedicated, spontaneous labor and that all went away. I couldn’t relax. I was concerned for baby. Because of continuous monitoring, I was stuck to my bed and had to call my nurse every time I needed to pee because I had my IV on the left and all my monitoring on the right. Eventually I couldn’t cope with the contractions, so I asked for IV pain medicine around 3AM or so to help me sleep. It made me so dizzy and sick. I puked everywhere. They started me on pitocin at 7AM and I asked for an epidural shortly after that. Right before the Pitocin, they did a cervical exam and warned me it would be painful. It WAS AWFUL! It made me cry. The Cervidil tore up my vagina and made it so painful. I was finally able to rest after the epidural which I fought so hard not to get. My beautiful boy finally came around 3 PM, but I had chorioamnionitis, so we were separated. Thankfully we both turned out fine!
I’m so glad you made this video so mamas can think about this as a back up. I did have a birth plan and I felt like I was cheated 💔 this video would have been soo nice! ❤️

Got the news today that we will be inducing due to my blood pressure and labs showing I’m borderline preeclamptic. It’s 3am and I’m anxious as can be since he will be coming at 37 weeks. I had plans for a birth center birth unmedicated, all natural. My plans changed so fast and I haven’t prepared for this possibility. I’ve watched so many other videos to help with my previously planned birth so here I am, a little over 24 hours out from being induced, learning a different way to labor. Thank you for this. It has helped my nerves a little by clearing up all of the unknowns. Your videos have helped so much even prior to getting our induction notice.

They medically induced me at 39wks due to advanced maternal age (eyeroll) but in the end I was glad they did so because it gave me a set "start date" for the labor. All in all it went really fast. I had been at 1cm and 40% effaced for the entire week prior to the induction, so they started me at 8pm with the foley bulb, and I was at 4cm at 50% the next morning at 9am when they started the Pitocen. I was able to eat both breakfast and lunch, and wasn't all that uncomfortable till about 3pm, where the contractions got big enough that I couldn't concentrate on crocheting anymore. At 3:30pm my water broke on its own. By 4:30 the contractions were INTENSE, and when they checked me I was still 4cm but 100% effaced, so they told me I was facing upwards of four hours of labor at that level or worse, so I tossed my "no pain meds" ideal and requested an epideural, but the anesthesiologist was busy (two more before me) so they gave me Fentinol, and it barely helped. At 5pm my body took over and started pushing on its own, and the midwife+nurse barely got in and set up (nurse set up a mirror so I could see <3) before my son arrived at 5:18pm. I can't say things went entirely to plan, but I can't say I am upset. Hope this helps someone. :)

I’m here sitting in the hospital in the middle of my induction process. I’m 6 hours into my cervidil and I’m watching all your videos to try and get through this other 6 quickly! I’m learning so much it makes me feel a lot better knowing what is to come.

Thank you - such perfect timing with this! I am 35 weeks and just diagnosed with choleostasis, and will be induced at 37 weeks for the safety of the baby. I am still wrapping my head around this. I had just written up my birth plan and given it to my obgyn, stating I wanted as natural as possible, etc. Now here we are with a totally different starting point. And all I want is for my baby to be born healthy and safe. Trying so hard not to stress out the whole time between now and then! Thank you for this breakdown of how it might go and all the encouragement! Finding your channel has been a blessing! 💕

Thank you for your videos on this topic! I was diagnosed with GD and was told to expect to need to be induced at 39 weeks. This really shook me up for a little bit because it was so different than what I thought labor would look like for me (aka getting to labor at home). Your videos and others are really helping me feel more informed and more relaxed about the whole process. Thank you!

I will be bringing a birth preferences plan (my doctor didn't appreciate the detail, but she said everything on it was very feasible) to hand the nurses and my partner just so I feel more heard.

Healthy baby and mom is the goal, but you're helping me with figuring out how to communicate with my team what will help me feel more empowered/comfortable through the experience.
