I just got mine yesterday. Super smooth, greatly improved lane changes. My big WTF is that now the car usually sets it's speed at about 85% of posted limits (although interstate driving, and driving in thick traffic, it's still fine. And if you tap the accelerator it goes up to normal speed.) Overall it's more capable and confident. Wife loves it this way.

Thanks doc. We got this version a few days ago as well on our hardware 3 Model Y in Toronto. Overall, it's a massive improvement. Agreed with skittishness (minor annoyance) that we found in intersections when people were very close us. Also, we found the yellow lights behaviour somewhat improved (It's not slamming on the brakes too soon). But, it's become skittish when the light turns yellow and it has trouble deciding what to do when approaching intersections. Speed set by offset and auto speed offset was very good now. It also drives through major construction detours and around vehicles double parked and more perfectly. Overall, it's very close to level 4 & 5 autonomy. However, the occasional odd behaviour would be a only little unsettling to robotaxi patrons. This is the current state of the art of FSD development. It is very close to full FSD. It will get better even after. There will most likely be a long period of time for the regulators to approve full FSD understandably. But, the data is compelling that it is already saving lives! Looking forward the next versions. Looking ever more forward to wider release in Europe, China, and more!

I assume you disengage when you prefer a different lane choice because you want to send a message to Tesla. If NOT, you can simply hit the blinker to force a lane change without having a disengagement.

At around 26:30 you complain that fsd chose the left lane 3 stoplights too soon (now sitting at a stop light behind too many cars), and that you would normally disengage to change lanes. But you can just request a lane change by activating the turn signal. Or do you count that as "disengaging"?

I wish I knew a way to cancel a lane change before fsd executes. It hates the right lane too much, even with Minimal Lane Changes selected. (And why they heck is that a "for this trip" option? Very annoying that I have to remember for every start-up.)

I like the sunglasses mode, much easier than having to open my eyes wide, maybe I squint too much, I'm always getting nagged to look at the road even if I am looking. With sunglasses I don't turn the steering, I just hit one of the roller buttons. Since it ignores my speed change the right button roll is an easy move. I've discovered even changing the music volume with left button roll will reset the attention request.

Your criticism of the car going too slow seems overly critical. You say everyone here drives 50 on this road, but you are surrounded by traffic going the same speed as you.

In my experience, FSD becomes a bit timid on streets with lots of contrast because of bright sun and tree shadows.

A strange thing happened to me yesterday on standard Autopilot. I suddenly realized that my Tesla Model Y was going very fast on the freeway under Autopilot. I looked at the screen and the speed limit was set to 80! On a California freeway where all the posted signage is 65. It dutifully added a 7% offset to Max Speed and I was definitely going too fast. Never happened before. Ghost in the machine? Has anyone else experienced this?

In my experience it is less hesitant than 12.4.3 particularly at stop signs. Acceleration and deceleration from stop signs is smoother as well. There seems to be more jerkiness/hesitation while actively turning. Maybe the biggest regression for me, it is completely unable to handle blinking red lights. 2018 Model 3 LR RWD.

It is obvious to me that Tesla has too much data from only certain areas of the country. Concentrating on city driving for robo-taxi will probably mean that rural driving will suck for a long time. I'm beginning to wonder whether rural level 4+ FSD will be in my lifetime.

It seems like the highway stack at this moment is slightly better than the current FSD version. 😅
