The jackfruit (Artocarpus heterophyllus), also known as jack tree, is a species of tree in the fig, mulberry, and breadfruit family (Moraceae).[8] Its origin is in the region between the Western Ghats of southern India and the rainforests of Malaysia. Jackfruit is commonly used in South and Southeast Asian cuisines. Both ripe and unripe fruits are consumed. The jackfruit is the national fruit of Bangladesh and Sri Lanka, and the state fruit of the Indian states of Kerala, and Tamil Nadu. It is available internationally canned or frozen and in chilled meals as are various products derived from the fruit such as noodles and chips.
Ripe jackfruit is naturally sweet, with subtle pineapple- or banana-like flavor. It can be used to make a variety of dishes, including custards, cakes, or mixed with shaved ice as es teler in Indonesia or halo-halo in the Philippines. For the traditional breakfast dish in southern India, idlis, the fruit is used with rice as an ingredient and jackfruit leaves are used as a wrapping for steaming. Jackfruit dosas can be prepared by grinding jackfruit flesh along with the batter. Ripe jackfruit arils are sometimes seeded, fried, or freeze-dried and sold as jackfruit chips. |

The correct way to cut and open a Jack fruit is lengthwise thats how we do it in the state of Goa, the fruit pieces remain intact and not in small pieces.

Jackfruit is one of the tastiest fruits, next only to mangoes. But it is as tough to get at the fruit, as it is easy with mango. But the effort of extracting the fruit is rewarding. Excellent instructions. The video could have been shortened a little.

This is amazing! It looks beautiful and tasty. I love Jack fruit. It's incredibly expensive here in Portugal. I have just paid € 10, 00 for 800 gr of it in two cans which I bought from Germany on Amazon. Imagine, Jack fruit from India, bought from Germany to be eaten in Portugal. I wish I had known from Jack fruit when I went to India. Greetings and thanks for you video.

I like the positive tone :-) However once you de-fruit it a couple of times, you will discover your technique, and from then on it is pretty easy. I now live in Kerala, so lots of practice.

I cut up and ate some of my first jackfruit today! My family loves it. I did not like the stickiness though. I did watch this video after I started cutting bc I didn’t realize about the resin. My index and thumb hurt so bad now from all the pulling prodding and cleaning of the fruit. It's fleshy with the texture of cantaloupe but tastes like a mix of papaya, pineapple, and mango. Next time I'll use gloves!
