'The Black’s Lamentation' or 'The Bedlam Black’s Lament' is performed here by Angeline Morrison. It is a broadside ballad originally popular between 1730 and the 1760s. Angeline chose to sing it because, "it’s an ancient English song with a black lead character, and his inner life and feelings are very clearly drawn."

Lovely job. Beautifully sung.
I know the Planxty "Blacksmith" version: "A blacksmith courted me, nine months or better"

Hey, I've been doing some research on the folk song "A maid in Bedlam, " which I found was inspired by this song (Wonderful performance, by the way). I've been able to find the tune of _A maid in Bedlam_, but not much on this. Would you mind telling me where you found the lyrics and music to this song? My nerdy self would appreciate it.

I would also love to know the source for the lyrics. I can't quite make out all the words, so a transcript would also be wonderful. Lovely performance!
