Sega Dreamcast Disk Read Error and Disk Scratching Repair

I repair a sega dreamcast I bought off eBay. The seller listed it as randomly resetting and not being able to read disks. In this video I diagnose and repair the dreamcast. I hope this can help anyone in the future who is having similar issues.

Wow I've never heard of the height of the disk spindle being a culprit for disk reading errors. For the longest time I thought that laser calibration was the only solution. I'll have to try this. Thanks!

The rest issue more times than not is the little black open/closed switch for the lid. It's prone to heat and collects dust and dirt over time, it's also wobbly which doesn't help... Blast it with a can of compressed air. And make sure the lid is in the open position when you put the top back on to the base, so the switch aligns properly.
