I've also done the same exact things whenever I skim! One time when I was a junior in HS, I remembered that we needed to write 3 expository essays until the end of class and we had to find concrete evidence for each and every single one of our supporting paragraphs. It was extremely exhausting that I had slept next class but luckily there was a sub and it was the last class.

HS teachers: here's your daily two hours of homework
HS students: between 7 periods, that's 14 hours of homework. Plus an 8 hour school day is 22 hours. Sleep is 8 hours. There's literally not enough time in a day for me to do this, unless you can expand the day by an extra 6 hours.
HS teachers: other classes aren't my problem. Figure it out

It only gets worse in university lol, as a history major almost everything I do is reading. About 5-6 200-400 page books, daily/weekly readings for each class, so basically ur job is to read multiple books at the same time while reading small articles or primary sources and all of those you’ll eventually either have to write a 10 page paper on or use for ur finals or whatever it may be.

I usually read every other word, not exactly but ya get the point. Just skiping over every day words, and learning to see words as symbols and recognize which ones they are immediately is also super helpful.

My books actually came with really detailed revision notes so I would study them and then the next day I would be prepared enough to answer questions very briefly and somehow the teacher was happy
