I am a seventy-two-year-old woman who has watched the news since I took journalism in Ryerson in Toronto in1973. I really resonated with the reality of what journalists were back then and what has happened to the media up until today! I cannot help but be shocked constantly by the blatant lies and programming that takes place in newscast everyday! Wow, another great piece. My dad a WWII vet used to always tell me that while I am working 80-100 hrs a week to raise snd support my family I had better pay attention because the political class and Journo counts on you working to hard to pay attention. I am retired now and todays piece RB resonated. It truly shows that normal folks, whether left middle, or right middle, or middle have way more in common then that thin black line drawn by media. Most of use are a mix of left ideas, right ideas, and middle ideas and our intersections are great then our difference, but politicians snd media want us to think the opposite, our differences are greater then our commonalities.

This is spot on. I must say Russell, that one thing I absolutely love about you is that even though you're a star, and could become part of the " upper class " easily, you never ever talk down to anyone. You give everyone equal respect. I wish others would take the time to learn from you.

Wow, 5 years ago I never would have dreamed that Russell Brand and Matt Taibbi would be my new "Go-To's" instead of those that pundits that try to get us to hate the other side. At 68 I gotta say all things are possible. Thank you so much Russell for helping a conservative look at different views from the center left and understand and appreciate their value.

One of the reasons Trump has a large following of older people is that we (I'm 69) have been watching or reading Trump for decades already. We watched him develop the opinions he has, and that fact validates them as his own original thinking. We know full well what he is, and we know what he ISN'T. We didn't just watch e few "Apprentice" episodes or hear his famous "YOU'RE FIRED!" tag line. We heard him speak to the major issues he still advocates. We know he's 'crude spoken' and we know it's part of his "Schtick". Oh well.

Having said all that - Trump is his own man. He's not a politician by trade, but he has seen their dark side up close because he knows who he had to 'pay' to get ANYTHING built in New York, for instance. Politicians hate him because they know HE knows that, as well. From that perspective, we watched as the entire political elite did literally EVERYTHING they could to set him up and knock him down. It's not hard to figure out who to support when one side is continuously disingenuous and on the attack. Trump won by standing up.

Matt Taibi is a great journalist. We need more like him. Just report what you see, tell the truth. That's all we're asking. He does that.

When I was a young lad, my mother took a job with the local newspaper in Arizona. I got to meet many newspaper people, and in those days it was a rough and tumble but family focused business. Our hero was Don Bolles, an investigative journalist who stood up to organized crime, big money and politicians. Don was killed by a car bomb in 1976 and that's around the time the journalism profession was changing. You don't find many like Don any more, and as Russell and Matt Taibbi said, it often seems like they hate us now.

Russel Brand is for me a true example of how it's possible to disagree with someone on many topics and yet be in 100% agreement on other topics. Brand's take on the current political narrative is a breath of fresh air in its fundamental impartial truthfulness. The lesson for me was to never judge someone by just one of their beliefs or opinions.
