All I know is when other player's were coming down 23 was still in the air.

It's not how high his vertical was, it's how he could sustain air time. He seemed to hover & outlast his opponents. His hands were like suction cups. He was different and we likely won't see anything like him in our time. He's the GOAT.

Whatever his vertical was, he sure gave the appearance of flying higher than anyone. The gracefulness and ability to float an extra split second is unmatched by anyone. And his hands holding the ball like a grapefruit made it all a thing of beauty.

Jordan’s sideways dunk was called “kiss the rim”

6:58 that dunk, that's my favorite photograph/slow mo footage of a dunk ever. He was art in the form of a basketball player.

Finally someone talks about that reverse under the rim dunk... Still my favorite jordan dunk

Mike knew how to stretch himself to appear like he was flying. He played fearlessly like a center and he played with a calm approach. He didn't overwork himself which gave him space to perform. He worked hard but he didn't stress his body out.

Jordan's measured height at the Olympics in 1992 was 6'4.88". Also, he was the subject of a vertical leap study at UNC in 1983, where he maxed out at 45.76". Supposedly, he hit 48" at an Olympic workout in 1984.

I don't remember when or where I heard this but in an interview I believe he mentions only jumping as high as he needed to whether it was over a defender or attacking the rim...this in my mind leads me to believe MJ could command 48 to possibly a max of 50 inches...also when i look at his older brother who dunked in a video long ago...you could see the same type of characteristics in power and finesse he his brother as we know is 5 foot 8 or so...MJ nonetheless is rare air for sure!

Crazy thing is Mjs Hands were more freakish then his Vertical. Combine that with Killer instinct & Heart + Skill = G.O.A.T.

4:28 Jordan actually hit the board at the base of his neck. So basically we need to add at least his entire head height and neck length to that jump. Incredible

Like most of Jordans competitors said like Charles Barkley. The thing I will ALWAYS REMEMBER about MJ is those Nike shoes flying over my shoulder while I was still on the ground and hearing the ball whoosh through the net and thinking that is going to be 2 MORE POINTS.

Interesting. Confirmed what I saw growing up but couldn't put into words. MJ had like reserve 🚀 that he could use to elevate on a drop of a dime. He legit soared 🦅

Jumping high is good but jumping quickly is more important. That’s what gave him his advantage

Reason why other NBA player having a hard time blocking MJ shots is because he literally out jump them. Over and over again he prove that. He's signature fade away jump shot and hang time..just wow

MJ had natural athletic ability. You can do all his workouts you want...you'll never move or jump like him. He didn't workout to get that way...he just continued to build on what was already there. Don't kid yourself

This is from a EPOK article, "The highest NBA vertical jump belongs to Michael Jordan with a height of 48 inches. In 1984, Jordan reportedly tested his vertical jump while playing for the U.S. Olympic team. Those in attendance support that Jordan successfully achieved a 48 inch vertical."
