WIJT8: Today we take our first trip to Movie Park in Bottrop, Germany! As usual, we take a tour of the entire park, go on many rides, and observe some other fun quirks and things to do in the park! While definitely not as large as something like Europa Park, Movie Park still has lots to offer and some of the attractions such as Van Helsing's Factory were an unexpected surprise!
Originally opening in 1996, Movie Park now consists of 7 different themed areas, most of which to a film or TV series. Though I'm not too into kid's areas of theme parks, Movie Park's Nickelodeon Land definitely boasts a variety of themed attractions for kids of all ages. It's no wonder why MP consistently is awarded as Germany's #1 family theme park! As for the teens and adults, there are a handful of thrill coasters and flat rides, the flagship being Star Trek Operation Enterprise, a MACK multi-launch coaster that has been thrilling guests since 2017. I was even surprised how (relatively) smooth their Vekoma SLC, MP Express, was. Though these clones are notoriously rough, I was surprised how much smoother it was compared to others I've been on, and that was in the second-to-last row!
Though many attractions were closed because of social-distancing requirements, namely their flagship show "Crazy Cops", we still were able to get a good feel for the park and really enjoyed our day here. While MP does not have the insane scope of rides as Europa Park, or as heavy theming as Phantasialand, MP still has something that everyone can enjoy, and if you are ever visiting North Rhine-Westphalia, it is definitely worth spending at least half a day at.
In the future, we are looking forward to attending their "Halloween Horror Festival", where the park is transformed into Germany's largest theme park Halloween event, with hundreds of scare actors, 4 scare zones, and 8 scare mazes. Fingers crossed that we can attend this year!
To celebrate their 25th anniversary, in 2021 MP will open a new Intamin coaster. They have announced that it will be/contain:
-A dark ride with sound and special effects
-2 forward AND backward launch sections
-360 degree rotating platform (multidimension)
MP also claims that this coaster will be indoor, and feature no inversions. Definitely looking forward to seeing how they pull it off!
