I lived in St. Thomas. You have to be careful with the locals! It’s not a super dangerous island, but it really has an extreme ghetto population who will loudly and without any filters, go at it (verbally and using explicit vulgar language) with one another!!
As long as you stay close to the touristic areas, you should be ok. Explore the island, but dont believe those "We are the friendly island people" commercials you see on brochures or on tv! A lot of nice people, but plenty of crime and bad islanders!!! Trust me, I have experienced this first hand time and time again while living there! Such beautiful islands with such bad population!!
