I have a question to ask.
For instance, the word” edit”.
Did not we have this word in the first place?
I mean, was not the word “editor”created from the word “edit”?

If the situation is not so, what can be stated for the word “teacher”?

The question hereby arises: How do we know the origin word and the backformed word?
Is there a linguistic rule that governs backformation??

Ok, big brain question. Let’s say that I have a sequence of letters, are there rules that I can use to tell definitively weather or not it is a word that can be pronounced? For example: “asdrain” isn’t a word but it could be, “agdvapm” could never be a word.
NOTE: I’m interested in doing this for an other language so I’m not looking for a series of rules that only apply to english but more for some good advice on what to search to find the info I need.
Thanks on advance :)
