Steve Howe played with the fury of a punk rock guitarist, the precision of a Jazz guitarist, and always sounded like he was transcending in ecstasy. He was one of a kind.

I don't know how Steve Howe played all that amazing music without being able to read music or tab. His memory must be excellent!

Nice to hear the respect for YES, over 50 years later. My favorite band of all time. And that Fragile album was my favorite YES lineup. The talent level was amazing.

God, I love Yes. Ol’ Steve played live and clean for hours on end and never missed a lick. He should definitely be studied and appreciated. It’s amazing how he could jump styles at the drop of a hat.

Tim playing Yes like it is just another day at work. We’re not worthy!

I was never a huge Yes fan back in the 70s. I was more into Beck, Clapton, Zeppelin, The Who, Deep Purple, Joe Walsh, Johnny Winter, Duane and Dickey, Ten Years After, Tull, Traffic, etc., but I always had mad respect for the talent of Steve Howe, Chris Squire, and Rick Wakeman. It's pretty mind boggling how many phenomenally talented musicians were born on that little island in the 1940s, and literally exploded on the world with their unsurpassed, and unequalled to this day, level of musicianship, songwriting and magic they created in the 60s and 70s. We'll never see anything like it again.

Thank you Tim for shining a light on the most underrated guitarist of rock.

I don't think there is ANY bassist in the world who could've done Chris Squire the justice that Geddy Lee could. He was a perfect choice to fill those large shoes.

Long time viewer, long time Masterclass subscriber. I'm just here to say: "RIP Chris Squire. Gone too soon." Thanks for the appreciation, Tim!

There is no band like Yes. And no one can fill in for Chris. BUT Geddy is one that truly can. A master musician from a band that had the best drummer my ears have ever heard so far in my life. Thanks for pointing out the virtues of Steve. So many stand out moments from each of the musicians in the band YES

I'm so glad you did this. Steve Howe is the most overlooked guy in rock IMO. He played very difficult parts with a clean tone. Not lots of distortion or effects hide behind.

South Side of the Sky has some amazingly brilliant guitar licks too! My personal favorite.

"Yessong" is one of the finest yet greatest prog rock live album ever! I bought it durning my university period in 2001 and then bought also the LP first press... What an AMAZING band! Steve Howe, what a perfectionist and "surgeon" of guitar he is! Underrated for some reasons...

One of the best bass lines ever.

Definitely my favorite Prog Rock song.

I've been playing guitar for 60 years and I've always said that the Ventures, Nokie Edwards, taught me how to improvise using pentatonic minors and Yes, Steve Howe, taught me how to improvise using major scales. I'm happy that you've highlighted Steve today.

That video of Yes at the R&R HOF always brings me a tear, because Chris Squire had passed.
He spent his whole life keeping Yes going!

During my life i have had the pleasure of seeing Yes live several times. They really make an effort to put on a show for the fans. In fact in 1973 I went to see Yes in Glasgow, it was my first ever concert and the whole performance completely blew me away.
