I've only shared this about 300 times over the last few years 😅 but I'm gonna share it again right here
If you've never been on a boat in the middle of the ocean miles from land in the middle of the night you are missing out on what would be the most awe inspiring unimaginably fantastic sight of your life. No one should miss the night sky on a clear night. It's absolutely one of the most amazing memories of my life. You can see hundreds of thousands of stars shooting stars/meteorites and there are so many and it feels like it's soooo close to you. No one should go through life without seeing it at least once

When I was about 10 years old, I and my best friend sat out on his porch to watch the Perseid meteor shower. We saw not a single meteor but it was only about 9 or10 PM. Now I finally know why!

A few years back, I got a big trampoline just for a place to lay and watch meteor showers. A cinder block or 2 in the center helps to increase the angle if needed.

I heard this on the original, but will still say this is the best short ever.

when I was a kid my friends parents always had astronomy magazines and kept up with when the meteor showers were and we would climb out the upstairs window and lay on the roof and lay there for hours. One year we counted over 150

We grab our sleeping bags and pillows and dogs and me a and the kids head out to
Our back yard.
We start out counting one every few minutes but yes, after midnight sometime our counting speeds up so much we can barely keep up. Plus there are more than one at a time. We get to 100 pretty quickly and we stop counting. Then we kick back and enjoy our front row seats/beds. My kids are usually party poopers around 2am and they would be asking me if they can go in and go to bed 😅.
Good memories. My boys are 40ish yrs old now. 💜💜

Standing lookout watch in the middle of the night, in the middle of the south Pacific is amazing.

My father and I would lay outside and watch the meteor showers together. Even as a young lad I was mesmerized watching them streak across the sky. Good memories.

This explains why when I stayed up to see shooting stars I never saw them, but I've seen so many at the shop when I get there for work in the morning, pre dawn.

On my hometown, Cottonwood, Az. There is a law called the Night Sky Ordinance. That we cant have any street lights, porch/garage lights or highway lights above a certai wattage cuz it'll detract from the night sky. You can see the Milky Way there. Its a famous place to go and watch the Perseides. It's right outside of Sedona. Grab a chair and sit in the middle of nowhere with some soda and a camera woth time lapse. You'll have fun.

I have fond memories of camping in the San Juan Mountains in Southwest Colorado and watching the meteors streak across the sky with the Milky Way in the background.
