From the Styrian capital Graz with its unique architecture the series’ second episode starts off. Roofer Barbara Rockenbauer maintains the historic roofs in the old town. Just outside of Graz a man fights the forces of nature: the so called “hail-bomber” Walter Golob. With his plane he flies directly into thunder clouds and sprays silver iodide, so that the hail goes down as rain instead. Like this, he protects the wine and fruit farmers’ harvest.

The route follows over the alpine pastures of Castle Piber. The stallions of Vienna’s Spanish Riding School spend their youth here. The journey takes us further to National Park Gesaeuse, where a diver explores and charts the caves of the area. The destination of the trip are the lakes of the Aussee region, the Styrian part of Salzkammergut. Here canyoning athletes hike through deep crevices and waterfalls. On Lake Grundlsee, people cross the waters on boats that resemble the gondolas of Venice. Erhard Amon still knows how to build these boats.

The Alps are the most prominent mountain range in Europe and also one of the most accessible. Over thousands of years, a unique landscape was created in which man and nature shaped each other. The documentary series approaches this fascinating world from an unusual perspective - from above. Using Cineflex camera technology, "Alps from above" sets the scene for the most fascinating peaks of the Alps. Breathtaking aerial shots alternate with pointed vignettes of the mountain inhabitants; a flow of high-quality images provides a modern profile of life in the Alps.

Austria’s beautiful…but for the Austrians themselves. Cold, rude and xenophobic, they seemed to have learned nothing after losing two world wars! I’d rather visit war-time Ukraine than Austria!

apparently these people (and the movie producers) have never heard of the Venice and the Gondolas....and I'm sure there are plenty of other places that can guide a boat w/ one oar. I really like watching Wocomo videos but sometimes it just seems they are either biased or completely out of touch with the rest of the world.
