Three Massive asteroid to fly past Earth this Weekend, NASA warns

Показать описание
Our solar system is home to millions of mysterious space rocks, and this week three enormous asteroids will pass by Earth this week, entering the zone that technically makes them “potentially hazardous” objects.
Looking at NASA’s Center for Near Earth Object Studies list of close approaches, it is almost as if Earth is in the middle of a space highway with objects flying by all the time. As telescopes develop and we are able to store and sift through more data, we’re finding more of the space rocks – especially the smaller ones that have evaded our sights until now.
The first asteroid, designated as 2023 HO6, will make its appearance on 05 July. This asteroid has an estimated diameter of 570 feet and belongs to the Apollo group. It will pass Earth at a distance of approximately 1.2 million kilometers, traveling at a velocity of 7.74 kilometers per second. 2023 HO6 was detected just a few months ago. But by studying how it moves through space today, we can look back in time and see that it made an even closer approach to Earth in July 1956.
On 06 July, another asteroid named 2023 ME4 will approach Earth. With a size of 110 feet in diameter, this asteroid belongs to the Apollo Group. It is expected to pass by at a distance of 7 lakhs 6 thousand kilometre’s, moving at a speed of 10.47 kilometer’s per second. The distance of Asteroid 2023 ME4 from Earth is currently 3 million kilometers, equivalent to 0.020653 Astronomical Units. Light takes 10.3 seconds to travel from Asteroid 2023 ME4 and arrive to us.
The third huge asteroid crossing on 07 July is 2019 LH5. The asteroid 2019 LH5 was discovered on June 06, 2019. NASA JPL has classified 2019 LH5 as a "Potentially Hazardous Asteroid" due to its predicted close passes with Earth. Its size is estimated to be around 918 feet. The asteroid 2019 LH5 will fly past Earth on 07 July at a distance of 5.7 million kilometers at a speed of 77760 kilometers per hour.
NASA's Asteroid Watch dashboard tracks asteroids and comets that will make relatively close approaches to Earth on a daily basis to detect potentially dangerous objects to the planet. An asteroid larger than about 150 meters (around
492-feet) approaching anywhere near Earth within a distance of 7.4 million kilometres is termed a potentially hazardous object by NASA. This is the reason behind these upcoming asteroids having been termed as potentially hazardous.
Though these space rocks pose no imminent threat, they technically fall under NASA’s classification potentially hazardous asteroid. This means that the rocks are large enough that, should their course alter, they would cause serious damage.
