The parkland in which the abbey is situated is designated by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site. The abbey is one of the largest and best preserved ruined Cistercian monasteries in England.
The water garden at Studley Royal was created in 1718 and is one of the best surviving examples of a Georgian water garden in England.
