I’ve just been starting to socialize a little since the diagnosis, and it’s definitely not any easier, but I’ve noticed that I give myself less of a hard time when I inevitably feel/act like a goof. I used to beat myself up, or wonder why I was so anxious all the time 😅

This is all true, but also I didn't used to know that my communication skills were subpar with most of the population, and now that I'm no longer oblivious my confidence has gone down. I used to not realize, for example, that my asking questions was being perceived as arguing or being pushy. Or that I want picking up on indirect subtext. Now I know, but that doesn't make me any better at NT communication, at least not yet.

So true. Not masking and doing old stuff because “I have to be normal.” This changes my whole lifestyle.

I’ve simply given up on a social life. It’s actually much less stressful!

Yes 46 and now I'm completely unraveling and unmasked and I don't care anymore

Thing is, I don't want a social life, like ever.

Will you talk about interaction with narcissists at some point? First, how do autistic people recognize red flags before they are demolished? Second, how does one recover from isolation to protect? I am no longer capable of masking I am so broken, so now I am "weirder than ever" which further isolates

I never needed a diagnosis to not pretend. My reaction to social troubles was to be antisocial.
