BEYOND WORDS

My name is Samra. Most students call me Sam.
I am a polyglot and I am also the founder of Maverick Lingo.

Speaking and learning different languages has been a part of my life since a very young age. Aside from being fascinated by languages and language learning, I am also very driven by helping students from around the world to overcome language barriers.

This is one of the main reasons why I decided to direct and produce my very first documentary called “BEYOND WORDS.”

Beyond Words wants to share with you that struggling with language learning is a universal experience. It doesn’t matter where you are from or how old you are, it’s absolutely human to struggle with language learning. However, one of the main points of this documentary is to also remind you that there is hope. There is light at the end of the tunnel. Anyone can learn a language, no matter how difficult or frustrating it may seem.

In this documentary, you will hear stories from legendary martial artists like Lyoto and Chinzo Machida. You will also hear from Lyoto’s wife Fabyola Machida, and a Brazilian lawyer Rafaela Freitas. I will share a little bit of my own story as well.

I feel so grateful and fortunate that the legendary Rener Gracie agreed to participate in this documentary as well.
He talks to us about the power of body language and his unique experience of growing up in a multi-lingual household.

BEYOND WORDS is approximately 17 minutes long. I truly hope that you enjoy it and that you feel motivated and inspired by it. Most of all, I hope that you know that you are not alone on this journey of learning and discovery.

Also, BEYOND WORDS is the first part of many more documentaries that Maverick Lingo will bring you in the near future.

I recognize myself in each of your students. The dread of the sentence which begins and which does not end for lack of linguistic means. The frustration when you want to participate in a discussion but by the time you find the words, the subject has already changed. And right now, the hesitation, the need to check every word I write in a language that is not mine and the use of the Almighty Google Translate.
I do whatever I ask my own students not to do.
