The US Bureau of Labor Statistics revealed that 275,000 jobs were added to the US economy in February. In that time, the national unemployment rate moved higher to 3.9%, its highest level in over two years.
Yahoo Finance Markets Reporter Josh Schafer explains Friday morning's report, illustrating what this unemployment figure could mean in a softening inflationary environment.

300, 000 software engineers got laid off in San Francisco in 2023. And in the 1st week of 2024, another 30, 000 got laid off from FANG. They are now driving DoorDash. That is not jobs created.

If unemployment is up the real number of unemployed is much, much worse. That’s a fact.

Been out of job for tha past 6 weeks and literally waiting for a reply from any company. I cannot believe that the unemployment rate is not any higher. One of the positions that I applied for shows that there were 791 candidates being considered. I think I may be competing against less experienced new graduates.

Historically, the "natural" or "normal" rate of unemployment in the U.S. has been 4% to 5%. We're actually at the LOW END of Normal. Relativity matters.

What about 40+K of tech workers who got laid off in January? The fact that it is very difficult to find work right now? Many people who became unemployed in December will be running out of benefits? Some who were given severance last year will be running out of severance and UI benefits? I think by June we will see a significant rise in unemployment. I also want to know what kind of jobs were created? More minimum wage part-time is what I am thinking.

Everything is cool as the unemployment rate is calculated with the layoffs but didn't added to the Jobs Created.
