Cleaning and preparing data in Microsoft Excel is standard practice these days. But that doesn't mean its the best way. The main problem with Excel in cleaning is that each time the data comes in, you need to repeat the steps to clean it. That means writing the functions and formulas which requires considerable skill which in all honesty most people simply do not possess.

Tableau Prep can help greatly with this. It has in-built cleaning functions which making cleaning data a breeze. In this video we'll be cleaning an actual data set. We'll be performing tasks like splitting data out and removing letters/numbers/punctuation to clean entire fields.

Hi, I have just started using tableau prep.

I have other questions. In Tableau Prep, how do you split the date and time?
Your example showed us how to split if the column has text and numbers, but not how to handle it if the column has date and time in the following way:
31/01/2022, 07:35:56.
I tried to split following your instructions above, however, in the menu the clean option is not active. What would you suggest to do?

Well, clean punctuation (~2:40) in the Name column might also remove (e.g. O'Neal) necessary characters.
Not a good idea.
