it's irritating how people think that you can just *lower* prices, that doesn't happen.
the Tariffs aren't about making things cheaper, its about investing in America, because if we produce things domestically then we not only have more control over it, but we actually have a cyclic economy that would actually help our economy to meet its own needs. prices may or may not go down but things should become more affordable because Americans will satisfy Americans' needs.

This issue with the tariffs is that in the long term it’s a good thing if it can make America self sufficient but so much of the population loves looking in the short term thinking “now now now” and is already hurting economically with how prices are. The high prices could cause Democrats to sweep in 2028 if this isn’t recognized

Trump will be a decent president if:
1.) His energy policy, deregulation, lower taxes offset the cost of tariffs
2.) He doesnt bend over backwards for Netanyahu/Israel and almost get into a war with Iran, which almost happened in his first term.
He needs economic policy that will actually result in lower inflation as much as feasible, and actually be ant-interventionist.

As a McKinley, and a descendant of President McKinley I appreciate the family reference.
Oddly enough, the 2020 election felt a lot like the 1896 but with Biden on his “porch” and Trump running around the nation to face defeat.
Btw: Grandfather McKinley, was a dead ringer for William McKinley. The eyebrows were spot on and from the limited vocal recordings I’ve heard, they actually sounded very similar. Just thought this might be interesting.

I'm really hoping that people recognize that this is short term pain for long term gain and don't rock the boat. Most people don't seem capable of looking very far ahead.

Trump should change the names of all those army bases back. Just because it’d be funny to see the meltdowns.

The best thing about Trump is that he embodies some of the best characteristics and policies of some of our best presidents from both parties throughout history

The issue with tariffs as a broad-brush answer to our economic issues in 2024 is that, over the last half-century, we’ve outsourced the manufacturing of all the *PARTS* that comprise whatever goods we’re hoping to see being “Made in the USA” again.

To be made in the USA means that “all or virtually all” components and ingredients are sourced and manufactured here (according to the FTC who governs those rules in the first place).

So it’s not enough that your kid’s Hot Wheels are built here, but that the metal is smelted and forged here, the rubber is grown, harvested, and molded here, etc.

And correct me if I’m wrong, but I’m not sure the US has that type of robust manufacturing infrastructure anymore. And to build that back up could take just as long, if not longer and would incur significant cost that will ultimately impact the consumer.

Will our wages also grow so that we match the inevitably higher cost of American-manufactured goods?

I’m not naysaying, I’m posing these concerns with real curiosity. I love the idea of looking at the stuff in my house and seeing ‘Made in the USA’ on them.

But it’s not enough to just make foreign products more expensive, it’s an entire culture of manufacturing and consuming in this country that will also need to change.

Pat Buchanan shaped Trump’s vision for America.
They were both Reform Party candidates in 2000.

Pat beat Trump in 2000 and Trump went in to adopt Pat’s platform in 2016.

When it comes to nurturing economic growth and reducing the general cost of the Federal government, President Jackson & President McKinley are not bad role models.

A whole ton of americans are living through what is basically poverty. On the brink of bankruptcy. If prices rise and these people don't see another option they may be used as a source of manpower for leftist civil unrest
There needs to be some sort of plan on how this impoverished population can get through a transition period in order to maintain government popularity
Many of these bankrupt people may become homeless. And the anti-homeless sentiment among republicans could only increase the likelihood such a population could be drawn upon for leftist manpower. Especially as they will be pushed into leftist states and cities which offer benefits for these people

There needs to a hardline stance concerning Europe. Not just with Ukraine/Russia but with NATO. I don’t advocate from a withdrawal from NATO (at least not yet), but definitely force the other members to pay their fair share and force them to amp up their own militaries.

12:54 Please do make a full video on the tariffs. Like you said, it is a complicated issue. I would like someone who isn't seething at Trump explain it in a concise way.

Another excellent video. You should make a long video about tariffs in regards to their functions, impacts, history in the United States, and discuss Donald Trump’s vision on how he will implement tariffs.

Protectionism is dumb, I agree that being protectionist with China, which is an adversarial nation, but with Mexico and Canada, is going to make inflation great again.
