International footballer Christian Atsu has been rescued from the rubble and is in stable condition at a hospital after Monday's earthquake in southern Turkey, according to the Ghana Football Association and Atsu's agent.
The Ghana FA posted on Twitter that Atsu had been rescued and was receiving treatment. Atsu's agent confirmed that he was stable and in the hospital after being rescued from the wreckage of a collapsed building.
Atsu was not accounted for immediately after the earthquake.
He plays for Hatayspor in Turkey and had scored a winning goal in a game the day before the earthquake.
His former club, Everton, expressed relief that Atsu had been rescued and was recovering in the hospital.
Over 5,000 people have been confirmed dead and over 21,000 injured in the earthquakes in Turkey and Syria.
Atsu's football team is based in Hatay, one of the 10 provinces affected by the earthquake.
Atsu has previously played for top English clubs like Chelsea, Everton, Bournemouth, and Newcastle.
