After J&K assembly polls, authority gears up for vote counting day

Following the Assembly Polls in Jammu and Kashmir, the authorities have begun their preparation for the vote counting. The Assembly elections, the first since the abrogation of Article 370, were held in the erstwhile state of Jammu and Kashmir in three phases, after a gap of nearly ten years. The counting of votes is scheduled for October 8.

A day after most exit-poll projections gave an edge to the Congress in Haryana while predicting a hung assembly in Jammu and Kashmir, the BJP was dismissive of the numbers as they pointed to previous instances where the eventual mandates turned the projections upside down. Unfazed after most exit polls put the Congress ahead in Haryana, state Home Minister Anil Vij claimed the voting percentage in LoP Bhupinder Hooda's constituency reduced by 5% while it was up 3% in his, thereby implying an erosion of public support for the Congress. The JD(U) president for J&K also played down the exit-numbers for the Valley, claiming that the mandate will be 'very different' this time
