i live in louisiana and the way some of our elected officials have been handling this is disgusting. senator kennedy made fun of a reporter at the press conference, and just a few hours ago governor landry posted on instagram about how he was out to dinner at a fancy restaurant in new orleans, only editing his caption to include a couple sentences about the attack after people called him tone deaf. the sugar bowl is still on tomorrow and i worry for people's safety there. one of the confirmed victims was from my city and everyone around the whole state is just so shaken up. it's so insane to be so close to something like this, even though i don't live directly in nola it's definitely surreal

I've been working in the Quarter for 15 years. One of the IEDs was found half a block from my work. I'm headed into my shift right now and half the neighborhood's shut down, blockades everywhere, shit is unreal.

Boyfriends friend lives up there, they left just an hour before the attack. Just absolutely horrible, sending so much love to all of the families. I cant even imagine how awful this is for them, to be so excited for the New Year only to realize they'd be starting it without their loved one.

The definition of terrorism is rather vague but it is not "invoking terror". It's specifically causing violence especially to civilians for a political or religious ideology

Times like these i realize how glad i am of loving in the shithole where nothing happens my country is (Paraguay). We side with america, but we also have no army and send nobody to their wars. We got no mass shootings, no natural disasters, not a whole load of crime, not much social upheaval. But we also barely have democracy, everything is privitazed, little government, tons of corruption. Though i am privileged enough to not suffer too much from all the negatives.

I’m a Nola native and longtime Hasanabi head, and have to say I highly recommend looking into local reporting to get more nuanced takes as to why this happened and what can be done to prevent it. The city is grieving and our leaders up to the state level lack answers and accountability.
