A democracy is "majority wins, period. 50%+1 wins."

A republic is "a governnent for the people, by the people, even the people of a somewhat smaller group". That's why our constitution dictates Amendments must be ratified by a super majorty of 3/4+, and minorities bigger than 1/4 can veto the majority. America is not, nor ever was a democracy. The colonists were roughly 1/4 the population of Britain when they started the Revolution.

A government controlled by a group of millionares and billionares are not for the common people and are not of the common people.

A government controlled by such a group is called an oligarchy.

Its not the the constitution that says that, it's the Declaration of Independence that says :

In a republic, citizens in one state cannot tell citizens in another state how to live.

THAT is the difference.

THAT is why the original constitution vested powers into the federal government only for international and interstate issues.
