We do have a lot of words that are so different. Like we call candy floss, cotton candy. Or sun cream is sunscreen. Or windscreen is windshield. Indicators we call turn signals. Pram, stroller. Slip road, off ramp. Boot, trunk. Bonnet, hood. And so on. I may be an Apache from Arizona but I’m a bit of an Anglophile, lol. Cheers! ❤️

Qtip is a brand and box calls them cotton swabs. We’ve done the same with the tissue brand Kleenex-some people ask for a Kleenex rather than a tissue

Q-Tip is the brand name and it says it on the packaging. Cotton bud is the broad term to describe all of the white applicators like this. We have Q-tips and other brands of cotton buds as well. Most Americans call them Q-Tips because they’re the most frequently sold and it’s a term everyone associates with cotton buds.
