In this video, we’ll take a look at the step-by-step explanation of how to add 1/2 cup and 1/3 cup. We’ll start by finding a common denominator—changing 1/2 to 3/6 and 1/3 to 2/6. Then, we’ll add the numerators (3 + 2) to get 5/6 of a cup.

We’ll also show how to measure 5/6 of a cup in the kitchen using 3/4 cup plus 4 teaspoons. This simple method works when you don’t have a 5/6 cup measurement. Whether you’re baking or cooking, this video makes it easy to add fractions for recipes.

I often find it's easy to convert to decimals.
1/2 = .5
1/3 = .33
.5 + .33 = .83
To confirm, dividing 5 by 6 = .83

That was worth a video? They taught me that in the fifth grade. Plus, there isn't a 5/6 measuring cup nor a graduated measuring cup that has 5/6 among its assorted measurements. So even if one learned that 1/2 plus 1/3 equals 5/6, one would still have to add 1/2 and then 1/3 cups to one's recipe, thus negating the "education" this video provides. Do better.
