Having someone confirm that art school would have critiqued her creative eye away makes me truly grateful that I never had the opportunity to go to one even though I had always wanted to. It sounds like art school would have made me loathe art and feel confined in it rather than freed by it.

Man, you hit on it so well in this video. I don't care for commercialized high-end art, and I love that artists are able to connect directly with people who love their art.

I love that the paintings aren’t just on top of the fabric, but are one with it. It’s like when you see something and cant separate it from a particular memory. It’s not just a floral pattern, it’s this one summer night visiting your aunt carol and talking to the neighborhood cat. You feel so submerged in the scene

I love this work and the vibe.
I also love your comment about " critiquing" elements out of her work. It's something I hated about being at University for art. If something wasn't liked by a lecturer then it was seen as "wrong" and as a student you'd take in the comment and change your style to meet a style that isn't even your own.

I don't care what some professor has to say, I think this art is incredible. I would happily spend money and proudly display this in my home.

A huge issue ive seen with art school is educators not being able to see past their own biases, putting down perfectly good work simply because they don’t agree with the technique or personally like the style. I wonder how many wonderful artists gave up because of such a flawed system, makes me sad tbh

These look awesome!! I love how she mixes mediums, it's like the barrier between the viewer and the piece have been broken. Its immersive and invites the viewer into that space. I love it!

I'm here for the arguments but I also really like the shorts recommending artists. I don't necessarily have any comment, just wanted to say these are also appreciated.

I started painting on vintage patterned bedsheets during my time completing a fine art degree, and I was partially inspired by Sadko Hadžihasanović, another art school graduate here in Canada who paints on patterned wallpaper. I wonder why people think art schools discourage that kind of creativity?

Omg I totally agree !! She has become her own movement of realism and almost diorama and it's so immersive thank you!!

I love her work! This is so cool when you look at the use of vintage materials upcycled to make something new that also honors the memories of these same materials so they are not lost entirely. LOVE this!

The storytelling in this is so good. When you hit me with the, "remembering grandma feel" with that image, it snatched my heart.

This is one of the most unique, amazing displays of genuine creativity. The art borrows from the fabric but what your eyes and your mind end up feasting on is this comforting yet complex piece of your memory you never knew existed till now. As if you know exactly when and where this snapshot of time has captured but you also know you've never been there or seen it before I'm your life. It's intriguing and confusing all at once. My goodness. The artist has finesse the fabric out from behind the layers of paint. Like a memory that you are having trouble recalling some details to and your friends are slowly layering their own memories down to reveal a version of what really happened.

As someone who went to a very good art school that would have encouraged her to be as experimental as possible, I’m just saying, it depends on the school. I’m still glad she didn’t go because she didn’t need it for skill, obviously, and she’s clearly developed a robust conceptual and skilled practice. But there’s really no substitute for someone who would benefit as an artist from a structured environment and a focus on receiving, not necessarily incorporating, feedback. You can choose to ignore critique. The point is to get feedback from others trying to conquer the same specific subject matter or focus of whatever particular classroom environment you’re in, because it deepens your learning experience. Not everyone needs it, though. Some people have a vision and they can teach themselves all the practical and skill related aspects of creating and put it into practice and they work well in isolation to figure out and explore their ideas.

Art is just creating something that moves someone and makes them emotional. Her style of art is absolutely amazing

So nice to see you supporting or even showing the srt of others. Its so appreciative. You are a great person for doing this. I think its really important especially with the tech and advertising elements of life today...you cant escape it etc... anways i think its really a good point about the structure of art school culture. The best part is people like you making art ACCESSIBLE to others who may not stop to notice, or be interested otherwise OR they are part of the many who were rejected by the art world. This accessibility doesnt have to "cheapen" art, it educates people, connects us all, and you do this tastefully.

THANK YOU ❤
