In the UK we’ve only so far had the 75kwh battery in the Model 3 Long Range but now in 2022 we have a 78.8 kWh [LG?] battery.

So will this bigger battery give much more real-world miles and range? How far can it REALLY go on one charge?

What efficiency does it achieve at motorway speeds 70mph?

Here I take one with me for the day and we’ll see!

Thanks for watching!

Another great video Richard. I have the same battery in my 14 month old long range. I’ve never charged to 100%. I charge daily to 80% in my garage with a 110V outlet. I charge to 90% for my 290 mile trip from Cape Cod to New Jersey and stop briefly at one of 4 superchargers on my way. Great car. Bought it for $49, 970 and squeaked in for the Massachusetts $2.5K EV rebate. Price has gone way up. Love the white seats.
Keep those great videos coming. You are my favorite YouTuber.

I own a Model 3 LR with this battery since March 2022 and I am surprised how good the range is. In April I went on a trip to the Netherlands from my home in Germany and I was able to cover the 620 km with a single charge. Maximum speed was 100 km/h.

I just got my 3LR and had Symons do the ppf and ceramic protection as we were preparing for the first of many of our long trips from Essex to Cornwall. The quality of the work was matched by the standard of Richard’s videos. Not only was the range unbelievable but the speed it charged at from superchargers. We only went for the 250kw type and it made the journey not much different in time from the petrol car journey’s we usually take.

Got one of those newer LR. Managed 284 miles using 75 % of battery a few days ago ( low 20s degrees C, dry, aircon on, unrushed motorway journey with some slow traffic ) . That would give a 100 % range of over 380 miles. 75 kWh usable my calculations suggest.

Love your reviews Richard! This is entirely consistent with my experience- I struggle to fault this car, just such a brilliant all round experience. Safe, fast, comfortable, simple, great stereo, awesome range, low running costs…nothing to dislike! 😀👍

The other Sunday went To Nottingham from near Romford, round trip 275 miles in my M3LR Dec 2021 model. Mainly doing 65mph. Got back with 15% on battery. Temp mostly 30c with air con set to 19c v impressed!!

YAY, another honest review from my favorite UK personality. Trust me that honest EV reviews are becoming a known trait from Richard now. Get your EV from someone that knows which one is a good one.

If I were in the UK this would be my go to EV dealership. Here in Canada I am still looking though, Suggestions anyone?

I'll be changing my current Hyundai Kona EV next May when the lease ends and the Model 3 is on my shortlist. I had a test drive in a long range dual motor variant today and was extremely impressed with it. I'm waiting to see how the Hyundai Ioniq 6 compares before making my final decision but at the moment the Model 3 is ahead of the Polestar 2, Hyundai Ioniq 5 and Kia EV6.

Picking up a MY next month. Can’t wait! Your videos have helped convince me to make the jump to EVs.

They needed to put a bigger battery in as my standard range RWD 2022 LFP will do 280 miles a charge max in these conditions so there wasn’t much between that and old standard range. My RWD would have averaged 200 wh/ mile on this trip with this style driving so it’s about 15% more efficient. I have done a test Wakefield to Milton Keynes and back and am doing another same route to show not a one off and will post my video up in about a week.

Best bloody vid ive seen to date on this model. Cant wait to collect mine in 2 weeks. Really needed to find out the mileage figures as i will be doing plenty of motorway miles. Screen shot the figures thx again. Need a vid of how it handles in the ice n snow lol

Tesla efficiency is other worldly. 4.5mi/kWh for a motorway type journey is incredible. My Ioniq 5 would get about 3.5 mi/kWh. Or 250 mile range DTE.

I did probably my longest distance without charging yesterday in my Summer 2020 LR. I got 245 miles with 3% remaining, driving quick-ish on the way out and quite carefully on the way back with 3 people (including me) in the car. Trip stats showed 257Wh/mi and 63kWh used.

Just what I needed to hear Richard. I had heard there may be a slightly bigger battery in the latest models. I ordered my model 3 long range in May before the latest price increase after a very long year or so deliberation. I do site surveys all around the country and on average cover around 45-50000 miles a year. I have been subscribed to your channel for a while now and its helped me realise i have made the right choice. Your always down to earth and honest about everything and come across as a very likeable character.
I have just had an update through the Tesla app that instead of April/June next year i should hopefully get mine between December and February, and may even be offered earlier from what Tesla have told me.
I was hooked after a test drive. The ease of one pedal driving with the amount of miles i do and the comfort, ability to overtake over short distances etc.
your videos are always interesting and informative and i look forward to the next instalment.

I was lucky that I ordered my long range on 15.february. It should arrive next month, since then prices went up in Slovenia for 5.000 €.
If you want great range, hight performance and solid price, model 3 is still best by far.

Got my m3 long range March with the Ryzen chip. Not sure what size battery it has; But, I was well amazed driving 313mile round trip from where I live to Stranrear and getting back with one percent left. It's done just under 5000 miles and averaging 4.2 miles per Kwh. I certainty can't complain about it range

I have a 2020 Long Range (White/White Premium interior and Full Self Drive)and it just about hits 290 miles of summer range.
In fact todays long range with a real world extra of 30 or so miles and FSD would cost a staggering £13, 000 more.
Even without FSD the same car today would be £6000 more. Still a great car but at todays prices I’m not sure I’d be buying one.

Surscribed and love your videos. I got my M3LR in June 2022 so this makes me think I have that 79kwh battery.
I will try your real world.
I keep getting messages from Tesla syaing i'm charging my battery too high and letting it get it too low.
My mileage needs that range on some days, not every day, but they are watching that battery pack!
