BAL HWITHRA - Cornish Mine Exploring

Показать описание
Cornwall is a region that still remembers and cherishes the mining industry and the prosperity it once brought. Despite the fact that in many countries, mines and equipment are abandoned, dismantled, and forgotten, Cornwall still cherishes its mining legacy, which is evident in its culture and landscape. The region is dotted with slag heaps, engine houses, and toxic waste sites.
Although many people consider these mines as nothing more than holes in the ground, there is a growing community of mine explorers in Cornwall. Bal Hwithra is an example of this community, where Jenine, a Cornish nurse and passionate mine explorer, dives into the endless caverns beneath the land.
The images captured during these explorations raise questions about what motivates a person to venture into the darkness, risking their lives by crawling through narrow tunnels or wading through arsenic-rich water, with the only reward seemingly being the satisfaction of making it out alive.
Featuring Jenine Brown.
With special thanks to Charlie Comrie and Josh Frazer.
