When you play R&B music, check for the artist's accent and just focus on the song. Some people like poetry and the hook is something you can vibe to.

‘You know it’s R&B when you know what to(2) listen for(4)’

There is a strain of R&B that utilizes a 4 on the floor bass drum pattern with the snare on beats 2 & 4 released in a period between circa 1979 to 1985, 86, or 87? I call that type "disco" due to the 4 on the floor beats, funk styled bass, and soulful vocals and lyrics. Is the genre post-disco? Boogie? Pre-house? Proto Garage House? Garage House?
My interpretation:
1980-RHythm section (acoustic drums, bass guitar, chicken scratch rhythm guitar, keyboards) with strings and horns, some drum machine and synth bass, seems like almost no record used a drum machine
1981-Rhythm section (acoustic drums, bass guitar, chicken scratch rhythm guitar, keyboards) strings and horns are on the way out, use of synth bass increases, some drum machine use, developed alongside the so called boogie (R&B that had a bass drum beat hitting on beat 1, the & of beat2, and beat 3)
1982-synth bass and drum machines really start growing in use, strings and horns continue to be replaced (The peak of what I call 80s disco)
1983-even more synth bass and drum machines
1984-drum machine and synth bass use (the last peak year)
1985-1987-When the disco style was really on its waning point since almost any R&B song with a 4 on the floor beat was basically house music.
What type of beat has the bass drum hitting on beat 1, the & of beat 2, and beat 3 with snare on 2 & 4? Boogie? Funk?
Both R&B-dance strains mentioned above have jazz chords (Major or minor 7ths and beyond) and there are many having the vocalist improvise a lyric solo as well as utilization of instrumentalists improvising depending on the composition.
Examples: Change (1980-1983 since their 84 album Change of Heart lacked the 4x4 beat and their only 1985 song with a 4x4 beat was Turn on the Radio), BB&Q Band (1981-1983, their only 1985 song with a 4x4 beat was On the Shelf), Shalamar (1979-1982, they used new wave elements between 1983-1984, 1985 was electro funk and starting to incorporate New Jack Swing), Imagination (1981-1986), Prince (1978-1981 with some 4x4 laced tracks between 1982 and 1986), SOS Band (1980-1986), Carrie Lucas (1981-1982 since her 84 album lacked a 4x4 bass drum beat), Dynasty (1979-1983), Midnight Star (1980-1982 because in 1983 they were electro funk but in 86 they switched to NJS almost completely like many R&B acts did at the time). It seemed like in 1986 or 1987 everyone was New Jack Swing (shuffled 16th notes, syncopated bass drum beats where like drum hits anywhere but when the snare hits, a ton of synth), Donna Summer (1980-1984, almost every album by Donna Summer used a 4 on the floor beat with the exception of her 1974 album, All Systems Go (1987) and her Christmas album(?).) Basically in 1985, uptempo R&B split in 2 directions: House (4 on the floor) & Hip Hop (syncopated breakbeat styled bass drum)

Thank you very much. I tried to find the meaning very hard. In my country's language but no one made this kind of video. Thanks to you very much for making a very knowledgeable video, I will try to translate it.

I don't know much about musical rythms but in my country, the Brazillian old Samba rythm we always start with an "anacruza" starting the bar with a little silence or lag. I thought is similar.

The rhythmic displacement in R&B is slightly delayed which is called "playing in the pocket." With jazz, the playing is slightly ahead.

Actually, playing in the pocket is the opposite of displaced rhythm. Instead it means being in the groove and working well together in an ensemble. In "The Jazz Theory Book", Mark Levine defines playing in the pocket simply as grooving, where the rhythm section is locked in and working as a unit. When the music is rhythmically in a groove.
