Bulldog’s Head Painfully Swelled W/ Gas & Pus Due To Unresolved Ear Infection That Ruptured!

Gator was found in critical condition with a severe, life-threatening fever and massive swelling. He is in so much pain, with yeasty skin, infected ears, and a major sinus infection. We are in desperate need of help to save him!

Gator's journey began when his owner, overwhelmed and unable to manage his escalating health issues, made the heart-wrenching decision to surrender him to us for immediate medical attention. Gator arrived, feverish and distressed, with a temperature soaring at 103.3°F. He needed urgent help before it was too late.

His initial examination revealed that he had extensive dehydration, discomforting skin problems, and alarming facial swelling. The root cause of his condition remained elusive, but we initially suspected that he had a severe allergy or sinus infection; he had clearly not been hit or bitten by anything that may have caused a reaction.

Our vet, alarmed by the severity of this situation, instantly began a comprehensive treatment plan. Gator was placed on IV fluids, antibiotics, steroids, antihistamines, and anti-inflammatories. He was also given nourishing baths to clean his yeast-caked skin, which was likely very uncomfortable and itchy. Despite these initial efforts, his symptoms only grew more concerning. Our vet then discovered an abscess in his left ear that led to further swelling across his head. The source of Gator’s agony, it turns out, was a severely infected and ruptured ear canal. The untreated infection had spread throughout his entire body, causing pus-filled abscesses that required immediate intervention.

In a bid to alleviate his suffering and combat the infection, our vet sedated Gator and inserted three drains to expel the accumulated pus, fluids, and gas. Despairingly, Gator’s future hearing ability remains uncertain. While the right ear’s functionality is yet to be determined, his left ear will likely be impaired. This poor boy has just been through so much!

Despite Gator’s severe condition, his sweet and affectionate nature continues to shine through. He has already made several pup friends in the office and is most certainly a ladies' man! Still, he has a lengthy and tiring process ahead of him, and we are determined to stand by his side every step of the way, whatever it takes. But we could truly use all the support possible to save him.
