But whatever your mistake, rest assured that much worse and more expensive mistakes are being made in the world. For example, mistakes such as accidentally blowing up 2 multimillion dollar airplanes, causing a billion dollar rocket to explode or sinking a ship on one of the world's busiest shipping routes. Ever given.

Almost all of us have heard the name Evergeven mentioned in the news. This 400-meter giant is one of the longest container ships in the world and can carry more than 20,000 containers at a time. On March 23, 2021, the ever given was passing through the Suez Canal. The Suez Canal is an extremely important Egyptian waterway that serves as a shortcut for ships traveling from Europe to South Asia. Without this canal, a ship would have had to add about 7000 km to its voyage, sailing around the coast of Africa. The only problem is that the Canal is 25 meters deep and less than 213 meters wide. So if there's one thing you shouldn't do, it's try to steer a lumbering ship through this tiny canal during bad weather and high winds, which is exactly what Krishnan Kanthavel, captain of the Ever Given, decided to do. Underestimating the weather, the captain quickly lost control of the ship stuck in the channel and more than a dozen tugs were called in to rescue the ship from the shore. Komatsu excavators and other equipment dredged more than 1 million cubic meters of sand surrounding the ship. But despite all this help, it took exactly 6 Days and 7 Hours to free the big Ship. That's when the cost of this mistake started to grow. The work prevented more than 400 million dollars worth of goods from passing through per hour, resulting in a staggering trade loss of 31 and a half Billion dollars? The court then fined the ship owners 900 million in damages. So roughly 32.4 billion dollars were lost. The canal authority later clarified that Captain Krishnan Kanthavel was fully responsible for the incident, but the employers had to pay this expensive compensation.

That ship DID NOT SINK.
What it did was ram into the side of the Suez Canal in a way it couldn't extract itself, in a spot that took quite a bit of work to get it straightened out again.

Fairly obvious, , container ships are stacked way too high for the real world. Yes they get away with it most of the time but the number of containers in the oceans is rediculous

It was the pilot not the captain who got sideways. The same people who decided it was the captains fault are also responsible for the pilots actions. You figure out that one.
