A member of student organisation Oxford Action for Palestine criticised Oxford University’s Vice Chancellor Irene Tracey at her speech in the Sheldonian Theatre on Sunday for not "using the language of genocide" to refer to Israel's actions in the Middle East.

Well done young lady. You are helping in so many ways. Your courage is helping this tragedy not to become something so distant from people’s memory’s that it’s of no relevance to them. You have also shown the people at that gathering that they have a duty to use the language of genocide, because that’s exactly what it is. How can any other words be used? The day after day murder of children. Babies and parents in refugee camps, schools, hospitals and residential zones cannot be classed as anything other than genocide.
