How to Take the First Step to Where You Want to Go

Is there something that you think about doing constantly, but never get around to it?

Does changing your life in a positive direction and eliminating procrastination seem daunting and impossible?

There is a simple principle for making changes in your life and work to get started: do something, just ONE THING!

Many of us are familiar with the old saying, “A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.” The meaning behind this wisdom is that all we can control at any moment is the first step—that one thing we can do to move ourselves in the right direction.

If you want to get fit and healthy, what is one thing that you can do to move yourself in the right direction? Instead of eating a burger for lunch, you could eat a salad. Or instead of driving to work, you could ride your bike. The more often you do something, the more likely you are to do it again and taking one step towards your ultimate goal will create momentum in your life to then change more and more habits into more productive choices.

If there is something you want in your life, what is one thing you can do right now to get started? What is one thing you can do to remind yourself about the direction you want to go?

In this short video I share a story about how I started playing baseball again after thirty years and how I reached that goal simply by taking the first step. First “buy the glove” then do something that moves you on the path to where you want to go.

My challenge to you: TAKE THE FIRST STEP that gets you in the game, whether that game is a new career, hobby or other pursuit.

Remember the principle: begin by taking one step, just “buy the glove.”
