Black Keys - Lonely Boy Guitar Lesson

The Black Keys, "Lonely Boy" guitar lesson. Today we're using 3 pedals, a Boss Harmonist for the intro dive bomb, a Wampler Tweed '57 for the overdrive and a Malekko Lofi E616 MKII for some slapback echo. Dan Auerbach use the S-Bend mode on his Boss PS-6 to take the low E down an octave, a simple 'trick' that makes this song so recognizable. Although accomplished with fuzz, the Wampler Tweed '57 lays down a raw foundation with a fuzz like texture that can cover the whole song. Lonely Boy also has a firm slapback echo in the 3 chord verse and the Malekko Lofi Ekko 616 MKII can easily manage with a strong analog repeat full of warbling vibrato. Enjoy your daily guitar lesson.

Nice job. Nailed the tone. I agree that this song and pretty much all the Black Keys songs are pretty simple to play. Still fun to play for a crowd.

That was awesome guys! There's actually a cinematic blues version of this on my channel with a really trippy video. Thank god for the Black Keys!!

5 in bites at the guitar are great...I love this and will be checking out your other video's to maybe subscribe...I read one of the other comments looking for fret # and which string...Let those who have time to study that stuff find some other place, as there are many! This might be a resource some of us looking to grow our songlist just before the gig!! Thumbs up guys!

Does this work on the effect they use on “tighten up”? That dive bomb

at 3:25 is it open D or open A... A I guess

Pedal choice was excellent but you also need a fuzz (like a Russian Big Muff) to get that sound

Great Andy! One question... Are you using a pick? If so, where do you hide it????

Andy,

Can you just confirm the settings on the PS6 are as follows:

Balance - 10 o'clock
Shift - 11 o'clock
Key - D
Mode - S-Bend

Thanks...

The settings on the Boss Harmonist are difficult to see in the video because of the angle of the pedal. Do you have a better picture of them or can you tell me what they are set at? Thanks.

Hi Andy - could you get the intro effect with the new tc electronic sub n up ? Or is that too switch on switch off? (Need an expression pedal style).

Think it's supposed to say a at around 3:20 instead of open d but I may be wrong. Awesome lessons PGS!

Hello, do you think I can get the same or closer Black Keys sound by using a Gretsch electromatic double jet (G5655T or G5445T) ? (With the same effects setup)
Thanks
