The Life Cycle Of A Honey Bee Video For Kids - Complete Metamorphosis of a Bee. Bees play an important role in the pollination of plants and in the production of the sweet honey we use to do several things. Have you ever wondered how these insects come to life?
Bees undergo a complete metamorphosis, meaning their life cycle goes through four distinct stages: egg, larva, pupa, adult. The development of the egg to the adult lasts from between 18 to 24 days depending on if the outcome is a worker, queen or drone.
The life cycle of a bee begins when a pregnant queen bee lays its eggs in a wax, which is a hexagonal egg cell.
After 3 days, the egg transitions into another stage called the larva. The larva is a dormant stage since it has no legs and is blind. In this state, the larva will be fed by worker bees with jelly.
The pupa is the next stage after the larva. Like the larva stage, it is a dormant stage and is further protected by a cocoon around it. It is during this stage that recognizable features in an adult bee are formed like the legs, head, thorax and abdomen.
The final stage in the life cycle of a bee is the adult bee. It emerges from the cocoon by chewing its way through the wax. An adult bee is vibrant and can fly around.
