Показать описание
The God Set (Seth, Setekh, or Sutekh) was worshipped as the god of the wind and the desert storms in Ancient Egypt. He was always depicted as a dark and moody god, in the shape of a man with the head of a jackal-like animal. In the early times of Egypt Set was depicted as the ally of Ra in preserving the world in order by defeating the serpent of Chaos Apepi.
After the Hyksos invaded Egypt, The invaders adopted god Set as their main God. Since then Egyptians demonized Seth and made Him the murderer of their beloved God Osiris, and symbol of evil.

Fascinating! 4:00 During the Second Intermediate Period (1650–1550 BCE), a group of Near Eastern peoples, known as the Hyksos, whose name means literally, "rulers of foreign lands") gained control of Lower Egypt, and ruled the Nile Delta from Avaris, which became the capital of Hyksos in Egypt. They chose and acknowledged Seth who was originally Upper Egypt's chief god, the god of foreigners and the god they found most similar to their own chief god called Hadad or Baal, as their patron. The Hyksos King Apopis (Apophis) who reigned c. 1585–1542 BCE is recorded as worshiping Seth exclusively, as described in the following papyrus: "He chose for his Lord the god Seth. He did not worship any other deity in the whole land except Seth." Gardiner, ed. (1932). Papyrus Sallier 1 (Apophis and Sekenenre)
After King Ahmose I overthrew the Hyksos and expelled them, in c. 1522 BCE, The hatred of the Egyptians for the Hyksos invaders and their God Seth who represented them, crept into the minds and conscience of most Egyptians. 5:15 It is an interesting idea to think that the struggle for the control of Egypt might have found its way into their core beliefs. From this time on many legends were re-written in Ancient Egyptian literature to demonize Seth, focusing on his negative aspects. Thus, Seth was eternalized as playing the villain role in the world of gods.
