Are you able to close the laptop while have HA still operational, or does it still go into sleep mode? I tried a laptop a few years ago and when i close the lid it would shut off my server, haven't done this method yet, just want to know before i attempt it

Great video. I have only one USB port on my laptop. How can I boot Ubuntu from a bootable USB drive and then install HA without removing the USB pen?

Thank you! Installation boots up on an HP ThinClient to the HAOS terminal command prompt. Then you just kind of skip over the next part.. what do I do next? it says put in the IP address into your web browser, but I can't find any web browser associated with HAOS. any suggesstions on where to go from the command prompt to actually get Home Assistant to start?

when i get to the step of verifying permissions on the balenaetcher appimage file, i can check the allow executing check box but it immediately unchecks. Thoughts?

Do you have to be hard wired or can you use WiFi for setup and to run Home Assistant ??

Why does BalenaEtcher not allow me to select the System Drive (12:11 of this video; it shows as a hidden option but is not clickable... using BE v1.18.4-x64.AppImage AND USB is format as FAT32 AND Ubuntu is running off separate USB as NTFS in order to store whole ISO because file greater than 4GB)?

Great, informative video that I followed to a T and it worked perfectly on my old Thinkpad E520 laptop that was just sitting around collecting dust. Thank you for the step by step instructions! 👍

Great video, however when I tried doing this and followed the steps and flashed the Image to my disk drive, upon reboot. I just get a spit out from Slot A on the command line of computer components and manufacturer.

Many thanks! With your excellent guide I was able to migrate to a spare Dell 7390 i7, Gen8 in a couple of hours. I have fairly large HA setup+frigate+multiple cameras (+ Coral). My old Synology DS218+ VM struggled a lot but it goes superfast with the laptop. Superhappy!

I followed your instructions, but with Belena Etcher i couldn't flash the image to drive, the notbook froze at 33%. So i tried to write the image with the build in gnome disk and it worked. Then after restart i get a message "reboot and select proper boot device". I have set the boot in de Bios to UEFI, the secure boot option is not an option in my BIOS so i can't enable or disable this.
I also checked if i could specify the EFI entry, i saw this at the Home assistant site, but when i "sudo efibootmgr" in the terminal it says "EFI variables are not supported on this system". That is strange becaus the Bios says i can enable and Disable EUFI Boot option.
So i don't know what i can try next to make it work. I have a Samsung Series 5 NP535U3C-A02NL.

Installing Ubuntu on the SSD works just fine.

Everytime i try and flash the home assistant image, it gives me an error opening source.

Error: (0, h.requestMetadata) is not found

Thanks for the videos. First time I tried this everything went smoothly till the final boot. Just a blinking cursor. Plugged in usb drive, Ubuntu live, look at disk and there were multiple partitions with HA about the 4th one. None of them mounted.
What should the disk partitions look like ? I'll try again and see what transpires.

ubuntu froze and then logged me out... and i tought it didn't go trough but it did the job, just restart PC it will tell you to unplug the USB and it should work, just...wait about 15min after home assistant welcome screen appears, because it seems like its still doing something in the background where you are not seeing it even in CLI

Debian 11 on windows 10 virtualbox with ha supervised is the best choice to keep full control of the systems and use apps off the 2 worlds. I use winsound to play wav files via mqtt messages and python scripts? also to send processor temperature to home assistant and windows SAPI tts
