This is a clip from The Before Skool Podcast episode 24 with Jamie Wheal. There is a progress narrative that life keeps getting better, for everyone all over the world. Crime is lower, there's less war, people are supposedly living longer, we are richer, we have bigger TVs and more food than we can handle...but is the world really getting better? Is the progress narrative a lie?

Everyone can be dismissive of the advances until they wake up and realize the who reason they are alive is because someone figured out how to make the food on their table become plentiful enough they actually have it. That medical advances probably allowed you to survive childhood. Too allow your parents to survive their childhood. That being said, if you believe the world has a spiritual problem, I agree completely. We are in a spiritual disaster zone. An AI god isn't going to save us.

I listen to this guy talk and all I can hear is how elite and rich he is. He talks about skiing in Colorado, whether to move to all these places in the world, where to put all his monetary wealth, blah blah blah. How to live his best life.... Meanwhile the vast majority of us are dealing with no ability to purchase a home, skyrocketing food prices, healthcare and other basic needs. Even these concerns are still orders of magnitude above the abject poverty that still exists in much of the world. So yeah, not so interested in the ruminations of this elite.

“Society never advances. It recedes as fast on one side as it gains on the other. It undergoes continual changes; it is barbarous, it is civilized, it is christianized, it is rich, it is scientific; but this change is not amelioration. For every thing that is given, something is taken.“. -Emerson

I don't agree with many ways of this guy's thinking.

The world is not static. Accept that, adapt to that, adopt that... 'til next time...

This is the start we have to initiate dialogue to create understanding One of his references to Daniel schmachenberger, Who is a very educated individual put together the statistics in a factual presentation that shows the fragility of our society and it's addiction to the carbon pulse of our world! He then brings in jevons paradox, And the infinite growth model always used by economics Show that we are in trouble in our world, we live in a terrarium situation and refuse to see the limitations of our confinement and our eventual demise based on Output to absorption! One example is the C02 output being blamed For climate change however it is all the pollution in totality! The further Economic divide between top and bottom becomes greater, the more We all stand to lose when the pillars of our society become weak and collapse, 4 example in just the waste heat we produce is at an exponential rate so in 400 years certain places would be as hot as the surface of the Sun, This is impossible but that is the math! As resources are finite you can guarantee the 50 million dollar yacht won't run out of fuel will your car?
