SUMMARY:
John, son of Zechariah, preaches on both sides of the Jordan River that people should be baptized to show that they have repented from their sins and have committed their life to God.
John preached to the people that they must not rely on their family history of being descendants of Abraham, for example, but actually live their own life for God. The descendants of Abraham were not showing Christ by the way they lived their life, even though they claimed to be Christians.
Honesty, generosity, and not being an accuser are some examples of righteous living John gave to different people of occupations who asked what they could do to turn their life around.
John notes that he baptizes with water, but there is somebody even greater coming who will baptize with the Holy Spirit and fire.
John publicly denounced Herod Antipas for marrying his brother's wife, Herodias. For this, he becomes a prisoner of Galilee.
One day, Jesus comes to be baptized by John. It is during this process that the skies open and the voice of Heaven descended upon Jesus in the form of a dove, saying "You are my beloved Son and I am fully pleased with you."
Jesus' genealogy is tracked all the way back to Adam. Relatives of note and which descendant they were, are:
