Dante (1265 – 1321) was a major Italian poet of the Late Middle Ages. His Divine Comedy is widely considered the greatest literary work composed in the Italian language, a masterpiece of world literature.
Dante has been called "the Father of the Italian language". In Italy, Dante is often referred to as il Sommo Poeta ("the Supreme Poet") and il Poeta; he, Petrarch, and Boccaccio are also called "the three fountains" or "the three crowns".
The Divine Comedy describes Dante's journey through Hell (Inferno), Purgatory (Purgatorio), and Paradise (Paradiso); he is first guided by the Roman poet Virgil and then by Beatrice, the subject of his love.
With its seriousness of purpose, the Comedy soon became a cornerstone in the evolution of Italian as an established literary language.
He wrote the Comedy in a language he called "Italian", an amalgamated literary language mostly based on the regional dialect of Tuscany, but with some elements of Latin and other regional dialects. He aimed to reach a readership throughout Italy including laymen, clergymen and other poets.
Throughout the 19th century, Dante's reputation grew and solidified; and by 1865, the 600th anniversary of his birth, he had become established as one of the greatest literary icons of the Western world.

I had a high school teacher that had "lasciate ogni speranza voi ch'entrate" written above his classroom door. After reading Dante's work I finally understood why. He was a cool, albeit probably psychotic, teacher. Former US Marine sniper.

Despite not understanding a word of Italian, your beautiful reading of The Divine Comedy completely transcended mere words, and captured the essence of the story perfectly, at least in my estimation. Nicely done, Raf! 💙

It must have been an honor to be asked to do this reading. I enjoyed watching the video. Had to laugh at some of the back & forth comments. Other ppl's squabbles have always had that effect on me haha. My own, not so much o_O

very interesting video, as a Frenchman, I managed to understand most of it, and the fact that I'm currently reading it in a kind of old italian+oldish french translation helped probably a lot, thanks a lot, you should make a dedicated video, both on Dante his comedia, and Boccacio and the Decameron, which I read also currently in the same edition, but only french version. (P.S.: I love the XIVth century, and those two books are so amazing to kinda understand the society, and how they saw things at that time)

This is what it means to be an ambassador for the Italian language and a part of the arts. Kudos !

Tip if I may is to take up basic singing classes to learn breathe control which helps with being able to throw your voice.

Right now your voice is stuck in your chest and throat which needs to be out and not inside, to give a better elocution and be less tired when doing lengthy presentations such as your youtube channel and so on.

What's better than a man reading poetry? A man reading poetry in Italian. Beautiful! Also, I think I understood you say "bow and arrow" because of the video a couple days ago haha :)

I really wish I could speak Italian, I've read Dante in German because that's the second language that I've studied but it certainly doesn't have the same ring as you had in Italian. Although German did make it sound very intimidating

Bravo! Great diction, you totally lost your Sicilian accent while performing!
(I'm italian, I can tell)
By the way, if you don't have time to add subtitles, let us do it for you! I would be happy to help!

Devo dire che la tua performance qui è probabilmente la miglior lettura della Divina Commedia che io abbia mai ascoltato, riesci perfettamente a catturare l'atmosfera di ogni passaggio, mi sarebbe piaciuto essere li per sentirla tutta al completo.
