My wife just enrolled and I have to say, this was the best (by far) explanation I found on YouTube and the internet. Thanks!

Great video. It's helpful to see the pages to expect. Hey, when it asks if you're covered by a group health plan, that means an employer-based health insurance, right? If you just bought you health insurance (Blue Shield) on your own, then just answer "no" and move on in the Medicare application? No need to say the starting and ending dates of your health insurance?

Added - My Blue Shield card actually DOES have a group number, but it's not employer-based insurance. It's just a PPO I got as an individual.

On the question regarding if you are covered for under Medicaid, if you currently have the ACA coverage, but previously had Medicaid do you answer NO, because you no longer have Medicaid at the time you are completing the Medicare application?

I am a retired Federal Govt employee and applied for Medicare Part B three months prior to my retirement. I turned 65 on Aug 20, 2021 and retired Aug 31. Since then I’ve received a notice stating my premium owed has increased (from $148 a month, to $445 a month) based on my high income noted by 2020 tax records, I reached out to a SS representative via phone, explaining I recently retired, and she suggested I submit an APPEAL (via mail), or visit my local SS office.

Considering i submitted my retirement paperwork, I would assume Medicare would know my income has changed from being a full-time employee to becoming a retiree. No? I’ve reached out to my local office, only to be notified they are not accepting in person appointments. So, i can tell it’s going to take me a bit of time to correct this. Is this a common practice after retirement? Wow!

I already have my Medicare Health Insurance card with my Medicare number, and it shows a start date for Part A and Part B. Does this mean that I already signed up?

Thank you for your explanation. I have a question though, I will be turning 65 on February 15, 2021 and will be retiring too from my work and will file for my SSS benefits. Should I select enrolling in medicare and SSS? even though I will still work until February 15? Thank you in advance for your reply

I assume that ACA is NOT considered a Group Health Plan, so you would answer NO to that question?

I’m turning 65 in 3 months, but plan to continue working. I have insurance through my employer group health plan who has > 20 employees. What is the advantage to enrolling in Part A now? I have prescription coverage while employed. Once I retire, I can get a limited prescription plan that only covers drugs made by my employer (I work for a drug company), but it’s limited to 7 years. There are no other retiree medical benefits offered.
If a enroll in Medicare Part A when I turn 65, will my work insurance continue to be the primary and Medicare Part A be secondary? Do I have to let my employer know that I’m enrolled in Part A? Once I retire and want to enroll in Part B, I understand that I can only do this online, is that correct? What is the form I need to get from my employer to show my coverage in order to be eligible to enroll in Part B during the special enrollment period and pay no penalty? I will also have to pay a surcharge for Part B and D if I get it because my MAGI when I retire will be higher than the threshold. Is there a form to submit to say that the surcharge will be an over payment or is that submitted after the fact? Thank you.

On this video, I do not see the question on the application where it ask “Do you wish to enroll in Medicare Part B medical insurance?”
Also, I am on Cobra, so is Cobra considered as group health insurance?

Hello. Thanks for your information, it is very useful.

I have applied My Medicare Only on - line today.
But at the end it said that I have to bring or mail my Birthday Cert and my Cert of Citizenship to any SSI Office.
Is it necessary to do that ??
Or I just wait until contacted by SSI Staff for an interview. Then I have to bring those Certificates with me for interview ??

Thanks
