I've heard that the Canadian government recently passed legislation that makes a "Cyprus style haircut" from big depositors in Canadian banks legal. I know that the Heritage Index of Economic Freedom puts Canada as more free than the US, but neither is a safe place to keep money.

it depends where, and many Canadian cites took off after 2003 and mainly went up after 2005. I worked in RE I know the numbers. I also lived in BC for 30 years so I know how it is there, other provinces are different

Look at graphs that directly compare home price history in the US vs Canada. The US had a sharper increase, and a significant decline when the bubble burst. Canada is still increasing, so they are now inflating a bigger bubble.

Hey Yaron, do a movie review on "42" the Jackie Robinson story. It is pretty explicit that capitalism was the cause for breaking the racist exclusion of blacks in major league baseball. It is also a great story of individual strength of character.
