The old “Chris Squire” technique! He ran one of his stereo channels from his Rickenbacker into an old Marshall guitar amp and applied the “grit” to the high end. Maybe the best rock bass tones ever.

I always only DI my basses. I use quality, self assembled guitars with John East or Nord preamps. If I require distortion I use a Darkglass Microtubes X Ultra! That is a great sound by the way (the one you have developed). We all come to our own way of doing things and learning from Pros is brilliant. Thank you!

I saw this from you on earlier videos, and I made templates for nearly every recording that I do now! It's awesome! Dial down the gain from the high end a tad for a little cleaner mix...SUPER COOL...it's used in the videos on my channel, too!

Do this with FabFilter Saturn and run the saturated signal through a bass cabinet impulse response.

Personally, I like to sidechain the whole reverb channel to the signal so that the tail becomes more prominent because extenting the tail can wash out the mix clarity in some cases.
