Um, actually, Maya the Bee existed before the Bee movie. The original cartoon was a amazing and regarded as one of the best European cartoons.

Maya the Bee actually used to be(e) a 2D cartoon, that was really good. But then they did this ugly 3D animation mess.

"Die Biene Maja" or "Maya the bee" is a newer version of an old German cartoon also called "Die Biene Maja", the old version was much better, had much synergy, a great story, and tried to explain topics to young children, which are very hard to explain. For example there was an episode about seeing your friends die, where Maya's friends were eaten by a bee- eating plant, which tried to explain to children how horrible seeing someone die is and also tried to prepare them for the time when maybe a family member dies.
I think the original series of "Die Biene Maja" was great, because parents usually have a hard time preparing there children for such horrible moments, but the KiKa (that's short for "Kinder Kanal" or in English "Children Channel") didn't like the old version so they created the newer one. They didn't like it because it was mentioning many horrible topics, like death, war, ... and because the Kika is owned by the state and the current government has some problems with the messages of the old version, that it tries to explain to children.
When I was a child it wasn't my favorite cartoon, but it still was nice, even if there were much better ones like "Heidi", which also tried to explain very difficult topics, I personally find that Heidi does it in an much nicer much less horrible way and was better over all, also it had a much better story.
But "Heidi" was also remade to a new cartoon, which is "more appropriate". Even so it's old version was very appropriate and Kika just screwed it, because they didn't like some of the messages.
When I was a child my favorite German cartoons were the now old version of "Wickie" and the old version of "Heidi".

Maya the bee actually has an old cartoon version from the 80's or 90's. I remember watching it as a small kid.

I remeber Maya the bee when it was hand drawn years ago
Loved it back then
It had adventure, action,torture,killing,questions about life, good moral teaching etc.
This new Maya is all sugar but no spice

I'm German and NEVER heard of any of these exept Maya the bee. So I think Germany also thought that these Cartoons needed to die.
