An afternoon of books .

This is an afternoon in my office where I pick up some books randomly and discuss their contents of those books. Just trying to express the joy of engaging with mathematics

In mathematics, there are not more than two dozon books which are free from overlapping topics.

Moreover, there are several books which are written by sub-standard authors.

A great author knows how crucial things can be put in a curious mind without torcher.

I feel that in these days, great authors have been pushed behind by mediocre authors.

My favorite books are the following:

i. Naive set theory, Halmos

ii. Finite dimensional vector spaces, Halmos

iii. Measure theory, Halmos

iv. Hilbert spaces, Halmos

v. Problem book on Hilbert spaces, Halmos

vi. Analysis on manifolds, Munkre

vii. General topology, Kelley

vii. Lectures on Abstract Algebra, vol I, Jacobson

viii Elementary vector analysis, Weatherburn

ix. Differential geometry, Weatherburn

I am in the habit of solving problems in the above textbooks.

Nice collection of books. Couldn't agree more about the Schaum series. I myself read the vector analysis book during my undergrad days. It's a must have. BTW, I am thinking of visiting Sarat Book House in the coming weeks, being in Kolkata. Thanks for your time.
